Lunch Should Be Longer

Work, Home, Rest, and Play...it's always a great day at work...

it's funny when you think about it. kindergarten you can't wait til you leave and go to the grade school and learn to read. then you get to grade school and think, wow, i can't wait to be one of the bigger kids and be so smart and be like one of them. you reach sixth grade and go 'wow, i'm going to go to high school and kiss girls and drive a car and get a job and have money! high school rolls around and you think, great, i have no weekends left because of my part-time job, make minimum wage, drive a crappy car, but hey, college is coming and soon that'll change EVERYTHING. college comes, you have even LESS personal time (that is if you WANT to do good in college) and feel like the world is coming down around you if you don't get those silly little letters like 'A', 'B' or at the worst possible case, 'C'. college ends and you feel like you have freedom again.

that's pretty much how i always felt about school and life in general. but when i reflect back on it, i wished my life away for where i'm at now. i believe everyone has this feeling at one point or another. work used to provide a good feeling for me too. there were times i wanted to get to work and solve that pesky problem or do some coding. i can't necessarily say i looked forward to it, but there wasn't a point at which i said "boy, i really don't want to go to work today." as i've spent some time here now, i find i have more things i do outside of work that i'd rather do than be AT work.

one of the most scary things that i can think about is "for 30 or 40 years of my life, i will work 5 days a week from 8 to 5." the prime of every human's life will be spent the majority of the day within the confines of a building staring at a computer or a desk. i just feel that there should be more to living than that.
